Leap Year 2016 - 2020
If I want to drop 100 pounds to get to 183 as apposed to 283 that really only boils down to about one half a pound for every week.
That would be about 25 pounds a year. How could I not do that a pound of fat weight supposedly comprises of 3500 extra calories. Divide that in half and you have 1750 calories. Divide that into 7 and you get exactly 250 calories deficient a day to lose 100 pounds in four years.
Two less sodas a day. One less cheeseburger a day. Or even better yet. Break it down to whatever you eat for dinner... Serve yourself and then eat half. Then stop and sit in front of it for five minutes saying to yourself;
"You know what? I am really full." Then throw the rest away. You are then telling your subconscious that you were so satisfied you could waste the food.
This one technique was/is a powerful tool since it was a very bad thing to waste good food.
Use today as a mile post and hopefully on 2/29/2020 you can look back as I will and see how far you have come.

Heading in the right direction. Work more = eat less
I have not been so awesome portion control as I have just been busy, and that helps to first keep the mind off of eating and then doesn't allow time for eating too often. I do need to break the habit of being good through the day but then eating in the evening late.
I have never subscribed to it but a friend of mine who's whole family is and has always been thin, does this religiously, they just don't eat after 8 PM, period. (Although my friend never had any problem drinking beer and alcohol after that time... ). But I won't cast dispersions, he's the skinny one and I am the heavy one.
;)
Have a great day, and remember you are not the only one who is challenged by losing weight. But like many others you can take it off in a realistic healthy way and then learn to keep it off, every step in the right direction gets you that much closer. If you can't move forward, at least make sure you don't take any steps back. You didn't get to the weight that you are overnight so don't expect to lose it all so quickly.
Sincerely,
Onesville

Oh well
Calories cut that is great. Just because I made a misstep in the wrong direction doesn't mean I didn't make any progress. It is important to be compassionate with ourselves. Not needed to be judgmental with ourselves

Starting fast
Just watched a show last night about fasting. I have been thinking about this for a while. There was a guy on PBS who did a four day fast (three days and four nights) and he cut down some important numbers in his body. But there was the other fasts like every other day you would restricted intake to 500-600 calories, maybe eat one light meal and then the next day you ate what you would like to. Or the 5/2 fast which was 5 days regular and 2 days 500-600 calories.
I believe it is has something to do with our metabolism but also giving the body a chance to do something other than digesting and storing fat.
The very best weight loss I did was when I wrote everything down that I ate and approximated the calories. Well you know what, I am certain I was 100% incorrect in my approximations, but it doesn't really matter, what mattered is that I tried to cut down my eating volume, so weather I measure in pounds, calories, ounces, stones, micrograms, or whatever, I still was able to cut down on my amounts and was culpable to myself. It worked. I also was walking, for some reason. I can swim all year long. In fact I swam over 110 miles last year! I will say I was much stronger and my endurance is awesome, but fat loss, not so much. Am I glad I did it, yes I am.
But I think I am going to concentrate on doing a fast, for however long I am going to do it and then see what happens.
My body certainly can handle it. I have plenty of reserves.
279.... hmmmmm... well had I not been conscious of my weight all this time I bet I would be over 300 lbs by now. So have I done well? I have done better than I could have, but I have lots of room to get better.

I RESOLVE TO GET BACK ON TRACK.
If I think about how much better I feel already and how much mire energy I have it us a no brainer to keep working out hard. I cut my funger two days ago but I just need to wrap it up in water proof tape and do a big swim. Eat less and start keeping track too.
If you are working out you know you should keep a trend downward month to month. Weigh yourself weekly and motivate your self daily. Remember the eighty twenty rule. If you are eating and worjing out correctly 80% of the time you are doing FANTASTIC!!!
Thanks,
Onesville

Big Bones and 199 lbs is 23.8 BMI
Here is a great blog post for figureing out your correct BMI if you have a large frame.
http://www.livestrong.com/article/243072-ideal-body-weight-for-large-framed-people/
It is one of the first that seems logical to me. About twenty years ago I got down to 188 and I felt great, I looked great, and I was at the top range for what was acceptable for a weight to height range for a job I was trying to get. Didn't get the job but I was on a starvation diet for 60 days and worked out like crazy all day other than college courses. It was brutal. I lost 35 pounds and not in a healthy way either. But I did it. You can too, but if you are like me you want to keep it off.
I reversed calculated my BMI at 199 pounds and it came up 23.8 at 199. That's doable and that seems healthy to me. So for a little while I thought it would be cool to tell people that I lost 100 pounds, but what the hell for?????? I want the health not the merit badge for weight loss. Once I lose it I want to keep it off and forget that part of that chapter of my life. Not wear it as a badge of honor. So the goal still remains 199 lbs. I am well on my way, I hope you follow along and join me.
277 in the morning!
only 15 minutes to walk, or only a few minutes to get to that meeting? Well, do it and then if you can park as far away from the front door to the meeting, restaurant, store, your house, etc. as you can. That extra 500 steps maybe not much but then I am guessing you didn't gain that extra 50 pounds at one sitting at the table, just a little too many calories that day, then a few hundred extra calories the next day, then just right, then 200 calories the next... you get the idea.
So start making those little deficits in any and all ways that you can, so that you start to not even notice it, except the weight coming off.
Without going into great detail, I have heard that the great industrialists of the early 20th century commissioned a study on how to get the most labor out of one man in a days work. They had people shoveling coal all day from one pile to the next, then when finished they would shovel the tons and tons and tons right back to where they started. There were two groups, ones with big shovels and constant work and were not allowed to take breakes in the work other than to eat lunch, and then another guy with a smaller shovel (read, impossible to take great big shovels full of coal) and was instructed to take breaks very often to rest. Who won?
There are several points to the results
- The guy with the smaller shovel won the competition
- The guy with the smaller shovel was not as tired as the other guy at the end of the day
- The guy with the smaller shovel did three times the work as the guy with the big shovel!
So you ask, why am I discussing this? Well, take this approach to weight loss, small, barely perceptable changes that you allow to become habitual for you, so that it is not a sacrifice in your concious mind, and you are always moving toward your goal, while doing other things. If you try too hard that is all that you are about, and we all know you are much more than a normal sized person with extra weight to lose. You have a life, bills, jobs, loved ones, a home to attend to, not the only goal of losing weight.
Very Best to you
Onesville.

Whoa! 284.6 new max weight, gotta get it trending the other way!
284.6 lbs
OK. New, worst, biggest weight. NO MORE I am going to lose it all this time. Doesn't matter that it didn't work, in fact worked against me, in the past. I got the fire lit under me again. Just because my previous weight was a struggle does not mean I should give up, if anything it is just cause to re-double my efforts to get to my supposed perfect weight of 178. Personally, I think that may be a little too small for me. Even my doctor says he would never have believed that I would weight that much. I just guess that proves that I am very dense. LOL (pun intended).
In all fairness to me. It was the end of the Holidays, I can cook very well, and I probably had way too much salt in my system and retained quite a bit of water and I was drinking a fair amount of beer the night before full of calories and water that needed to get out of my system. It will happen quickly in time. Oh yeah, the sedentary nature of the holidays for me is also a factor.
Very Best, in the new year to you and yours,
Onesville
